Replacing an employee can cost months of salary, so HR teams want to know why people leave and who might be next. This project combines descriptive analytics with a simple predictive model.
Using the IBM HR Analytics dataset, the project explores attrition by department, job role, salary band, overtime, years since promotion, work-life balance and distance from home. Statistical tests confirm which factors differ significantly between employees who stayed and those who left.
A Logistic Regression model, chosen for its interpretability, estimates each employee’s probability of leaving, and the most influential factors are explained in plain language. The Power BI dashboard gives HR an overview of attrition rates, drill-downs by department and role, and a list of high-risk employees with their main risk factors. The report ends with retention recommendations, such as reviewing overtime policies, with the expected impact estimated from the model.
