Problem Statement & Abstract
A polished introduction to working with external APIs in React. Users search for any city or use their current location to see the temperature, feels-like temperature, humidity, wind, sunrise and sunset, with an icon and background that change with the weather.
A 5-day forecast shows daily highs and lows, and a line chart plots temperature every three hours. The air quality index is shown with colour-coded health advice. Users can save favourite cities, switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, and their choices are remembered in the browser.
The app handles loading states, unknown cities and network errors gracefully and works well on phones. It uses the free OpenWeatherMap API, React hooks for state and effects, and Chart.js for graphs, making it an ideal mini project to learn components, props, state and asynchronous data fetching.
